The Google Play Store will not offer app downloads for the former US President Donald Trump’s social network, Truth Social. The main reason is that the app violated the store’s content moderation standards.
Google Play Store rejects Donald Trump’s app Truth Social
Google has yet to approve and offer the Android version of Donald Trump’s social networking app Truth Social.
The problem is that the app violates the Play Store’s content moderation standards.
Google reportedly stated the following:
“On August 19th, we notified Truth Social of several violations of the Standards Policy in their current submissions of apps, and reiterated that having an effective system to review user-generated content is a condition of our Terms of Service, and that any app Both are available on Google Play. Last week, Truth Social wrote back acknowledging our feedback and saying they are working hard to fix them.”
This restriction on the Google Play Store means that 44% of smartphone users in the U.S. currently cannot download the app.
Google Play Store decision not to approve Truth Social Google Play Store slows extensions used by Truth Social
Truth Social was created by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) as Twitter’s main competitor after the social network for cryptocurrency enthusiasts itself banned it from the platform for tweets related to the Capitol Hill uprising on Jan. 6 .
Now available for iPhone, the Truth Social app is available in the Apple Store.
The Google Play Store’s decision to block extended use of the social network is precisely due to its terms and conditions regarding shareable content.
Not only that, but Google-owned YouTube also suspended Trump’s channel.
Elon Musk and his willingness to unblock Trump on Twitter
In early May, when Elon Musk was the man to buy Twitter, he said he wanted to unblock Donald Trump’s account because the choice “was morally Incorrect”.
Musk has been advocating “freedom of thought,” which is why he later confirmed he favors ending the permanent ban on the former US president’s Twitter account.
At the time of writing, the battle between Twitter and Musk is only escalating, with the social network also suing Binance this month. Musk appears to be changing his mind on social media acquisition deals.
