Ransomware NetWalker attacks three American universities for Bitcoin ransom
The ransomware NetWalker claimed to have successfully attacked three universities in the past seven days, namely Michigan State University, Chicago Columbia University and the University of California, San Francisco. The most recent attack was launched on June 3 against the University of California, San Francisco. The NetWalker hacker group claimed on their blog that they had stolen sensitive data from these schools, including student names, social security numbers and financial information. NetWalker threatened that if the Bitcoin ransom was not paid, the data would be leaked in less than a week. (Cointelegraph)
