Soramitsu will launch Japan’s first blockchain-based regional digital currency in Fukushima Prefecture
Japanese blockchain financial venture company Soramitsu announced that it will develop a digital regional currency “Byacco/White Tiger” at Aizu University in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, and will officially start operations on July 1. Byacco is a token digital regional currency based on the company’s blockchain technology “Hyperledger Iroha”. Soramitsu said that this is Japan’s first digital currency that is officially based on the use of blockchain for operation and circulation. Earlier reports said that Soramitsu also participated in the development of the CBDC payment system of the Central Bank of Cambodia. (Cointelegraph)
